Eris Moon, a main character in the first Destiny game returns as the main non-playing character (NPC) in Shadowkeep Eris has accidentally created a new type of enemy, which you must try to battle and defeat alongside the usual enemies and bosses. More about these below.
Eris spells out your mission for you, dressing up his instruction with a fair amount of mystical speech, but you will understand him pretty readily, as you set off to find your ideal suit of armour and the other trinkets and amulets that you need to resolve your missions.
You will need to battle ogres and captains and wizards amongst other villains, avoiding pitfalls and their unique powers as you work your way through the missions to solve quests, grow your skills and gather resources that are spread over the beautifully detailed worlds.
Fans of the first Destiny game will be delighted to rediscover old hideouts and well-remembered places and locations and these have been subtly updated to evoke the genuine feeling of coming back to a previously well-known site and finding it just the same – except for those little signs of wear, tear and aging that mark the passage of time.
Nightmares and Moonscapes
Eris has unleashed Darkness on the Moon which has led to Nightmares being created. These outlandish creatures are spectres, the results of traumas suffered by the Guardians coming to life and almost literally haunting them with horrors and previously defeated enemies.
Several areas are devoted to Nightmares and must be played through to find and defeat the Nightmare Bosses who are, as might be expected, formidable and scary opponents. These dark opponents can also be found in Lost areas so be on your guard at all times!
As a sort of additional extra, there is an entire Nightmare level waiting to be unlocked when you complete the whole of the campaign’s narrative. This is a Player vs Environment set called ‘Nightmare Hunts’ and it has four levels of difficulty: Adept, Hero, Legend, and Master, all with different pre-set modifiers so you will have to adjust your level of play accordingly!
It is a Massive Expansion Pack
The pack is so large and contains so much that it is almost a wholly new game. Here is what you can look forward to exploring:
A new full campaign: as mentioned above, get to the end of this story arc for even more content to be unlocked
Not one but two multiplayer Player vs Environment missions: these include old and new villains and locations, so you will have plenty to keep yourself busy with within the game for hours
One new Player vs Player Crucible map: a new challenge for you to tackle
Two reprised Player vs Player Crucible maps: these old maps have also been updated, tweaked and slightly enhanced, so do make sure you play over old routes to see what has changed
