This game is the official race of Blancpain GT Racing, and is officially licenced by Blancpain. This means that the tracks and vehicles feel authentic, and all the data generated within the game can even be enough to help the engineers and mechanics with innovations that will help real world cars improve their racing performance.
The player’s experience is designed to feel as real as possible with a range of weather conditions, accurate visibility and minutely detailed instrument panel: you will almost feel as though you are in a real car – and racing for the win.
What is Blancpain GT Racing
This type of racing is not nearly as popular or well-known as its close cousins, Formula One and MotoGP, but it enjoys a popular following amongst those who are passionate about Grand Touring races.
The full title is the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, and the contest gets its name from its main sponsor, luxury watch manufacturer Blancpain (headquarted in Switzerland, Blancpain is the worlds oldest surviving watchmaking company, having been incorporated in 1735. Their watches are owned by people as diverse as Russian leader Vladimir Putin and American movie star Brad Pitt.
The races in the series tend towards endurance races, with differences between the cars carefully assessed and allowances or weightings made to even these out – much like handicapping in horse racing. This is to give every driver the opportunity to win their races on their skill alone, rather than relying on superior engine power or design innovations.
Seven Races to Try
Within the game, there are seven races to choose from, depending on what you want to try and how much time you have on your hands. The earlier races can be looked at as a sort of training ground for the later ones where you will need serious skills, stamina and endurance to get yourself over the finish line with a place:
Free Practice: as it sounds, get to grips with your machine, and it is sure to be a sweet ride. Choose from Ferraris, Lamborghinis and more high-end cars, all tuned to speedy perfection for the ride of your life
Hot Lap: a very short intensive race against AI competition, these rounds take literally a minute or two and can exhilarate or terrify you!
Superpole: find out where you rank amongst the competition before you dive in against the big boys (and girls, of course)
Hot Stint: a short course intense race, this gives you the chance to spend a bit longer in your vehicle, putting it through its paces for maximum performance
Quick Race: an hour or so long, this intense but short form race will give you an idea of the endurance needed for the longer races without you risking missing dinner!
Sprint Race Weekend: with this extravaganza you get two practise races, two qualifying time trials and two races, each up to sixty minutes’ long
Endurance Race Weekend: don’t make any plans for after this marathon session as you will need a nap or two to recover! You get to test your mettle with two practise races, three qualifying sessions to hone your skills and then one or two day-long (that’s the full twenty-four hour long day) races to aim for the title and a place on the podium
